Our vision
Curiosity. Creativity. Exploration.
Discovery Children’s Center’s mission is to nurture curiosity, creativity, and exploration in an environment of caring and mutual respect. Our methods are based on the constructivist theory of learning and the constructivist teachings of Project Construct™.
Constructivism holds that children learn best by actively acquiring knowledge - through exploration and play, trial and error, creativity and experimentation. Constructivism embraces the unique abilities, needs, and viewpoints of each learner, and encourages children to cooperate and collaborate to generate hypotheses, experiment through play, and generate and express new knowledge. In constructivism, the teacher is a facilitator helping to provide context and guidance and to spark questioning, introspection, and discussion of new findings. Teachers and learners work together in an environment of mutual respect, giving children the freedom and security to bravely explore their world.
Discovery Children’s Center aims to create a diverse, caring, and safe and supportive environment where curiosity, creativity, and exploration can thrive. The learning approaches embraced here encourage a sense of wonder for the world, a love of exploration (both physical and mental), confidence in oneself, and the ability to puzzle through challenges, while emphasizing the importance of relationships, teamwork, and respect for all living things. Our goal is to spark personal growth in even the youngest children, laying the foundation for our students to become happy, conscientious, caring adults.
